PREMIUM PINOT NOIR FOR VINA VENTISQUERO

Heru is the first premium Pinot Noir from leading Chilean producer Vina Ventisquero and is named after the crimson-hatted dwarf ‘Herú’, the zealous guardian of the winery’s enchanted land and vineyards in the Casablanca Valley.

This first 2007 vintage of Herú joins the company’s premium portfolio to sit alongside the icon Pangea and Vértice wines. The distinctive and minimalist label features Herú’s red hat, together with the vintage, varietal, region and brand name. Information on the back label explains the dwarf leader’s role in the creation of this magical wine.

Also playing a part in the taste profile is winemaker and Pinot Noir expert Alejandro Galaz: “What other red variety gives you that balance of elegance, fruit expression, soft tannins … and challenge!” The 100% Pinot Noir grapes are hand-harvested from a 1ha parcel of vines on a north south facing slot in Viña Ventisquero’s owned vineyards in Casablanca. Soil mapping carried out by expert consultant Pedro Parra identified this granite plot with its limited sun exposure as ideal for Pinot Noir, and the slow ripened grapes undergo a low temperature maceration before the wine is aged in French oak for 14 months.

In just 11 years, Viña Ventisquero has cultivated prime vineyard sites throughout Chile’s most recognised grape growing regions: coastal Maipo, Rapel and Casablanca Valleys, together with the Apalta Valley, Peralillo and coastal Lolol in Colchagua.

Heru Pinot Noir

Heru Pinot Noir

Deep ruby red in colour, the nose initially reveals fragrant aromas of tart red fruits such as strawberry and raspberry, true to the classic profile of this noble variety. Subtle notes of vanilla and spice interlace with a delicate minerality, creating a red wine that is both charming and complex. On the palate, concentrated juicy fruit flavours and round ripe tannins are framed by a distinctive yet elegant backdrop of french oak.
