Matusalem aims high with Solera 7

As announced in the Jan/Feb 09 issue of Imbibe magazine, Matusalem have launched their latest rum: Solera 7, in the UK.

Matusalem Rums are produced and bottled exclusively in the Dominican republic using techniques dating back to 1872, when the Alvarez brothers set up a distillery in Santiago de Cuba and introduced the solera ageing process they knew from their Spanish homeland.

Imbibe's Verdict: "A medium-bodied, old gold rum full of complex fruitcake flavours, a strong vanilla note and some nice smokier, lapsang souchong-like tea notes from the wood. Rather good."

Matusalem Solera 7

Matusalem Solera 7

Gold rum with a rich amber cast. This 7 year Solera aged premium rum is true to its Cuban rum heritage. Rich aromatics with a whiff of sweet molasses and caramel. A bouquet of creamy aromas of vanilla enhances the flavours. Enters the palate very softly, with a lush finish, Sweetness is key, as bourbon-like wood notes highlight the flavours. The aromatic flavours leave a trace of vanilla and caramel, with the finish a very seductive experience.
