PLB wineries celebrate big wins at the IWSC 2011
Leading independent importer PLB hosted a table of trophy winners at this year’s IWSC Award's Banquet.
South African Winery Spier was named South African Producer of the Year. The estate achieved five Best in Class Gold Medals and received two further trophies: Spier’s Savanha Naledi Pinotage 2009 was awarded the prestigious Abraham Perold Trophy for Pinotage and the Spier Private Collection Chardonnay 2009 received the Mission Hill Family Estate Trophy for Chardonnay.
Spier CEO Andrew Milne attended the banquet to accept the awards, and commented: “I’m extremely proud of our winemaking and viticulture teams and Cellar Master Frans Smit for this amazing achievement. This is our third Producer of the Year award this year and is a tribute to the outstanding work the team is doing in the vineyards and in the cellar.”
Union des Viticulteurs de Chablis (part of the Blasons group) were awarded the prestigious Vinimpo Trophy for French Still Wine Producer, collected by Damien Leclerc, MD of Union des Viticulteurs and Blason de Bourgogne. The renowned Chablis co-operative also achieved two Best in Class Gold Medals.
PLB were the Sponsors of the highly respected Trophy for European Wine Retailer of the Year, presented to the Waitrose wine team by Simon Fredericks, PLB’s Financial Director.
