Muscadet and other bits of the West Loire have been hit hard, but Sancerre has not been affected as badly as originally feared. What of Burgundy? All areas are affected [...]

I suspected that this trip was going to be memorable the moment Gary Barlow and his mum sat down next to me at a restaurant on my first night in Cape Town, and I wasn’t disappointed. As Brand Manager of Vergelegen I was lucky enough to be invited to the estate, to work in the cellar alongside [...]

Big, modern and over the top has never been my thing, but if there’s one wine country that can throw these 3 concepts together and conjure up Beautiful, then it’s California. Until recently California was the world’s 7th largest economy, they’ve now been bumped to 8th place, but in my books that’s still good enough [...]

In all recessions there are winners and losers: whether individuals or businesses, history shows that there are always people who can find opportunities in a downturn. As Italy has shown in the last year, wine is no different. The country’s rise up the Off-Trade market share rankings was nothing short of phenomenal during 2011. The [...]

As wine consumers from a wine trade perspective, we almost always note the name of the winery, the varietal and – if we wake up inspired on that particular day – the vintage – but what makes a winery stand up and be counted and makes us remember them for the wine and the brand? [...]

We were definitely celebrating our wineries successes last night at The Guildhall, with a nice table decoration of trophies by the end of the banquet (and a lot of empty wine glasses). Good on Spier who stole the show, first winning varietal trophies for the Savanha Naledi Pinotage 2009- ’The Perold Trophy for Pinotage’ and for the outstanding Private Collection Chardonnay [...]
