History of PLB
The History of our Company
In 1982, back when the market was dominated by Old World wines, Jeffrey Fredericks saw an opportunity. He originally began by supplying the supermarkets with own-label Spanish fortified wines - and the company PLB was established. Since then we’ve built on our Chairman’s remarkable success and expanded the PLB portfolio even further, across Spain, then Europe and throughout the wine producing world, resulting in a fantastic portfolio offering, as a result of the close relationships we’ve established.
As the world of wine has changed, so has PLB - and we’ve continued to identify and act on opportunities wherever we can. Since we were established back in 1982, we’ve moved from predominantly supplying own label wines to becoming agents for some of the top wine brands in the UK. Our business model is to over-deliver on service, own-label, exclusive and branded wines, thus meeting all the needs of our customers. Our team reflects the skills required for this task in logistics, marketing, buying and of course, account management.
More recently, In August 2009, PLB acquired another wine business called HwCg. The two businesses had complimentary supplier portfolios, which when brought together, formed an exceptionally strong range from across the wine producing world. This means the PLB portfolio was strengthened by the addition of brands such as Blason de Bourgogne, Montes, and the Real Rose Company - the first global rose brand.
Not everything has changed here at PLB, though. We're still an independent family firm albeit now the largest in the UK, selling 6m cases of wine and turning over around £100 million a year. Above all, we are a team totally committed to providing the best possible service to our customers.
